As the year 2020 runs out, Davido drops his fourth studio album ‘A Better Time‘ to round off 2020. The feature-hefty Album sees Davido match up with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby on a tape occupied with a combination of both high and mild vitality all over.
Themes such as romance were part of the project and whilst Davido does not stray too far from his lyrical comfort zone, we can enjoy an artist we know and love in his newest record.
‘FEM‘ is a successful opener. Leading with a top trumpet to match Davido’s projective range, the leading single offers festive energy to begin the album. ‘Jowo’, a warm track offering a modest, yet pleasant tune with tender piano and soft drums, shadows this. ‘Something Fishy‘ is similarly soft.
‘Heaven‘ is a personal favorite and a standout on the album. In one of the few singles, which he appears alone;
Davido displays development that I would have wanted to see more of. With a tune reflecting Afro-house, (a genre heard again in ‘I Got a Friend‘ feat. Mayorkun and Sho Madjozi), we see a grown artist taking a risk in stepping outside the pleasant-sounding space we are used to.
There are numerous collaborations across the Album and although these may seem uneven, some are astonishingly pleasant. DaVido also came up with ‘Tanana‘ feat. Tiwa Savage, the seductive single that will make listeners wish COVID allowed us to leave our homes to enjoy a two-step.
The album title implies a better time than its predecessor ‘A Good Time’ Hope his next album will not be “The best time”. Whilst ‘A Better Time’ includes an array of interesting features check it out.
